It had been a rather slow week. A busy week in terms of the amount of workload i have on. A boring week in terms of personal life however. Have been very much flat in my creative vibes for the last few weeks. Had planned to go Skiing next weekend but forgot about a friends birthday, so i had to bail on that. Work is getting be down more than ever. We have a new guy thats working 2 days a week for our company, i cant work out the mind the company owner had when he was hired. The guy is very inexperienced and knows very little about this work..Its not helping me at all, its really slowing me down. Training someone up is one thing but this was not the greatest move.
On the upside Im hearing that Zed has purchased his ticket and will be in auStralia sometime next month! Cant wait brew.

I have been doing system update tests on a clients server for close to 4 days now. As you can see i have parked myself nicely, with my own brew if tea. Last nite i finaly got arouns to fixing my right hand side speaker, that snapped off my Motorbike. Mr. A kindly donated his time, hot glue gun, dremel and drill to assist me in the efforts. The 1 puece of mechano that was holding the speaker up, snapped from the vibrations, but is not warmly enclosed between 2 similar pieces of steel.

Having free tickets: 3 Good sets. Ellen Allien was great, a very progressive and creative set-10/10. Seth Troxler was awesome, he messed up a few times but thats cool, I really enjoyed his time. Tigas show was FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE. We walked into the room with lasers flying all over the place, it was like a battle royal with Tigas - Mind Dimension playing in the background. Thats a 6 minutes, full color laser rampage!!!EPIC. His set was lame, almost pre-recorded. His visuals were very creative, he had a big stitched screen with books moving across it, i really like it.
A side Note: Proxy...WTF was thatr shit? And Marcus Shultz, I just don't get the attraction. The Muzzas love him though...oh lord the muzzas..PUT YOUR SHIRTS BACK ON AND STOP TAKING STEROIDS.

Im attempting to make my own sourdough bread this week. I started with a mix of 1 cup flour and 1 cup warm watter in a big glass jar. It should take about 4 days to brew. Every day i have to take out 1/2 of the mixture and add a further mix of 1/2 cup of warm water and 1/2 cup of flour. After 3 to 4 days it starts to froth. You then refrigirate it and its ready to use in the dough mixture when the bead is actualy made.

I have been working on some back end functions for this blog. They are all in BETA now, need to iron out some things. But i have been progressively making the pinnacle of what i want. Click on the picture on the left to load it big. In a previous post i talked about the Image Dumper that dumps every picture in my blog to the screen. The next step goes a bit further. It sorts each picture by colors and dumps them. This one is sorted Dark to Light. Bear in mind the process i use is not truly a color sort. Its an average of RGB values.

First things first: Big thanks to Dan, Rowan and Jem for putting me on the right track. Im creating some side projects that run alongside this blog. One of the ideas is part of an earlier page I did that dumps every single picture from every blog entry onto 1 page. To fine tune what i wanted to do, however, i needed to use AJAX. So cash this shit is! Anyway click on the picture to the left, its the 1st stage of my project. Every picture on the blog dumped into a grid of 15x15px pictures. I have a page that generates that picture in real time but its only really useful if your on the local network. The page would take about 2 hours to load up in full in in current state over the net...which is why im not yet making it public....before you say it yes, this post is not in that picture!

A few notes on the latest upgrade to Android 2.2. The phone is just as fas in general interaction. However a few thing are outstanding. Flash works very smoothly. Even playing a youtube video directly from a page is great. The inbuilt browser now has its own inbuilt file browser which allows me to upload files via html get and post commands. This was a key anoyance in the previous release, and made me switch to opera. I have since removed opera. There is still a bug there, in that if i upload a file choosen via the astro file manager, it gets added in with a back slash. The eorkaround is using the gallery, ehich is fine. VNC is lihtning fast now, it was choppy at best, even on wifi in the previoua release. Have not tried the mail foldr move issue, as K9 mail is far beyter than the built in client

OSC is a newish standard that will one day replace MIDI. I have seen many live acts perform using OSC devices. Stephan Bodzin, was one who really blew me away both in how he intercated with the equipment and the amazingly futuristic looking controll system he used. A very simple one I checked out on my Nexus 1 was FingerPlayMIDI - you can get it here. I used this on my Nexus, with my own layout. Its awesome. Very good repsonse times. It connects via a small java based server app that runs on your desktop or laptop. The java app interefaces with a virtual MIDI driver, i used LoopB1, which you can get here. This then created a virtual MIDI device that Reason can pick up. Here is a small video of me controlling a Synth with my Nexus 1.

I had a few hours to kill on Saturday and decided to try to install Windows 7(Pro) onto my Dell Mini 9 Netbook. FOr starters i have a 1.6ghz n270 Atom CPU, 2gb ram,a abgn wifi card and 16gb SSD. The few problem i ran into at the start were simply to do with how to install it without a CDROM. I rigged up an external USB to IDE drive to an old DVD drive and did it like that. I also ran a full image backup of my current XP configuration and backed that up. I had a feeling that there were going to be bugs. The install took about an hour all up, after which i had 5gb of free space left on my SSD. This was the 1st light that went of in my head. I disabled the page file, that gave me 2gb more, and un-installed all the crap that windows 7 pro comes with like windows mail, movie maker etc.. and installed the Telnet client(which is missing unless you specifically install it). With a blank slate pc, no software installed I had just over 7gb free. My next test was winamp...Worked fine, over the network and from the SSD, but i noticed a few minutes into a song i was playing that the sounds kept crackling as if the CPU could not keep up. After about 15 minutes of troubleshooting, driver updates and adjustments to registry... i gave up(light number 2). So i proceeded to install Thunderbird and then AVG....Holy crap, soon as i installed AVG and rebooted the Mini was pretty much useless. Strike 3....Wiped the SSD and put the XP image back on! My conclusion...Windows 7 is not for the Dell Mini 9. It may work better if you have a larger SSD, and definitely better on a newer netbook with a newer Atom CPU.

They have not yet taken it down so watch it there because the quality is better. I suggest headphones as some of the sound effects are pretty funny and all 100% home made. The music was selected from 'The Darjeeling Limited' Soundtrack(Why YouTube will shortly remove the video r the sound). Thanks to Moon Moon for her creative advice. This took me about 5 days to put together over the last 3 weeks. I used plasticine, cardboard cut outs, little toy cars, wooden tongue depressors for the electrical poles and of coarse Blue-tac! This was hot using a Canon 20D.

I got all excited about the newly released Slyfire web browser for android. I downloaded it this morning to give it a good test run. How do i benchmark mobile browsers you may ask? Well i do 2 simle tests... 1. it must load my blog page as i see in in chrome. Skyfire passed with flying colours. It loads very quickly and its smooth. Zooming is an issue but its beta so no big deal. 2. i must be able to post a blog entry via my form...skyfire fails here. Kust like the standard browser that came eith my Nexys, Skyfite has no built in file browser..Opera mini is still king. Firefoxobile, which i tested a few days back does all this but its sluggish beta.

Firefox has been kind of sort of released for the Android. Its a 10Mb App which is huge! Its Fat and Sluggish at the moment, but its the 1st release so hopefully it will run nice and quick. It has some nifty features, like a side bar on both sides on the screen which you can flick to the right and to the left. I cant work out how to zoom in and out on this things, there is definitely no multi touch support yet. It does load pages very quickly though, and it has a built in you tube flash player, that is awesome!! It has its own built in plugins which is great and the full analli retentive control everyone has come to admire from Firefox. Would be awesome if they develop this to a full fledged application. The Add-killer plugin is one i cant wait for, as i cant modify the internal host file on the phone unless i root it

Here is a hack thats sure to make a few people cringe. Last week a client of mine was throwing out heaps of old computer gear. Part of the trash were 2 old back up tapes. They looked way to cool for the bin, so i kept them. After a short chat to mr. s about them, we both thought that it would be a great idea to put the tape itself through a reel reel player. Going on the tgeory that these backup tapes are A. Newer technology and B. meant for higher resolition recording. Seeing as i have a 1st rate reel to reel recorder, I did it. And you know what mr.s u were on the ball about it. I made some recordings on both the new tape and on some old tape but i couls only marginaly hear the difderence. My next experiment, blew me away, however. I spliced the old tape and new tape togethere with no gap and proceeded to record myseld howling into the mic. On playback, soon as the read head went from old tape to new, the audio quality was like apples and oranges. The old tape however has a good thick bass response, but too much high end noise. The new tape works amazingly well, with no high end noise, but slightly less than impressive bass response. Time to chuck out the ols tape and respool the reels with 90s backup tape.

In the last week, the seeds of my boredom have grown some really cool ideas. My clay-mation tests worked so much better than I intended that I think Im going to make a proper long flick with this technique. I had some really good ideas for the backing audio also. I tend to think that the audio in a film is, more often, more important than the visual aspect. Id like to make a small music video with some cool clay shapes and models. A bug in Opera Mini for Android?

Im not 100% sure but i think i have fuond a bug iether in my coding or in Opera Mini for Android. It seems that if i POST some data, aprticularly a JPG file allong with some text taht has any kind of symbols, eg Full Stop, coma, dollar signs etc... The JPG is corrupted and fails the validation on my server. Thsi is only a BUG if Opera Mini operates via HTTP. If it operates via SOCKS it works fine. So i can start bloggin from the toilets again!

My new Nexus 1 has some MAJOR flaws. I cant understand why these BASIC features were left out by Google:

There is no ability to upload data using the FORM FILE type in HTML. So my blog is useless. I found out, this is because android has no local file browser....WHAT? Im using Opera Mini Beta at the moment to overcome this problem
I cant move mail items from my INBOX to any other folder via IMAP. Im sorry WHAT???

Last night i tested out my 5th running darkroom. The previous light sealing i did worked great. There are some minor leaks at the very top of the window but they do not effect the paper at all. Im pretty sure if i left the paper there all night, it would not even fade a little! Printed some photos last night, the workflow set up is good, but i think the developing tanks will need to be lifted up higher, because im bending over from my chair to develop them. I also have a chair, for the 1st time ever in a darkroom. The last stage of developing, the wah box, is also not the best. Id like to maybe build a small water pump based basin in the room.

My old dopod has been acting like an 80 year old man. Bit by bit its faulted. Bit by bit i gave fixed it, patched it up. I even ran Windows mobile 6.1 on it. Sadly yesturday however, i walked into a table and smashed the screen...the touchscreen still works but its totaly unusable. Gladly the phone is still fully functional so i got all my data off. I had a long arguement with someone about his placement of a Mezzuzah in a doorway at his house. He angled it in the opposite direction, which i found werid as ive always seen it angled with the top to the left and bottom to the right. Seems i was wrong! There is no rule that defines its angle...

You would place the Mezuzah at the bottom of the third foot from the top. The bottom end of the Mezuzah would be touching the top of the fourth foot counting from the top.

Heres a story of how Outlook 2007 took away 1 hour of my life, never to be recovered again.

My problem: Exchange 2007, multiple domain environment. Person X wants ot send mail from 2 different domains in outlook...EASY? You would think so.

Solution: 1 hour of permision modifcations, default address policies, smtp connectors....NOTHING WORKS.....after 40 minutes i thought to try it on Outlook 2003...BINGO every works fine! FACE PALM!

Problem was that oulook 2007 does not allow the FROM address to be type in manualy, you must select it directly from the GAL, that is if the GAL has updated properly

Thanks to everyone who came and celebrated my birthday in style, on Saturday. Massive thanks to all my friends for my awesome to the max birthday presents. A double whopper of a BR Laser Phaser modified by Mr. A and to everyone else, especial my Moon Moon and Mr. P for organizing my brand spanking new Nexus! The party was great, even though i had to kick everyone out around 2 am (sorry guys, i rent and dont want to piss off my new neighbors). Will do a video of the phaser this week as soon as i can get my shit together! Took some long exposure shots of the beam, but after an hour realized that the damn UV filter on the lens was blocking 99% of the laser beam. Ill upload some photos soon!

The after party, held at Neverland in south Melbourne, was a complete shamozzle though. Out of the 3 headline acts only dubfire played a set worth mentioning. Sven Vath was off his face the whole night and refused to let John Digweed on the stage. Show bussiness bullshit. I have never heard 2 jours of more boring bullshit in my life.

Yesturday was a shite day for me. A few things really got to me in ways i really should not have let them get to me. Firstly, it turns out the cleaner who did the post vacate clean on our old appartment, didnt really do much cleaning. And getting hold of him to re-clean was even harder. And im going to see a refund any time soon. Damn u Wang, damn u to cleaning hell! I submitted a omplaint against him to consumer affairs, doubt that will lead me anywhere but whatever helps. Secondly my thumb got somehow stuff in my bikes indicator switch whilst i was driving, i later realized that the whole glove was coming appart. I drove to Peter stevens and gave them my 2c worth. They took the gloves, which are not even 4 months old yet, and said that it would take 2 weeks to get them fixed/replaced. Meanwhile they gave me some thin fake wanky pair so i could ride home in. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE. Today i feel a little better. I coffe would be nice.

At some stage you tend to go back to the classics and wonder where and how and who started it all. Last nite was an experience ill never forget. Having little heard of Orbital before i really didnt know what to expect. I knew it was going to be a live show, they are usualy heaps of fun. I knew they were a huge act, which usualy means a big crowd. I knew 1 or 2 of the tracks, which is my bad really. In reality i totaly forgot who Orbital were...as the night progressed and the set ended, The lights went dim, the crowd went wild. And i mean WILD! The place was filled with hardcore fans. HARDCORE FANS, wow! SO anyway, they come back for an encore, start playing and i start to feel something, to hear something and remember...Those fatefull few chords, that eaary theramin sound, the long reverbed swooshes of space and time. It was the Theme song to the TV show Dr Who....Years ago, i had downloaded it randomly, and i mean like 10 years maybe, it was a live version, really shitty sound but everytime i listened to it, i was there. Where ever there was. Last night however....I REALLY WAS THERE. Live in person listening to Orbital perform, and i said to myself...THATS who Orbital are, now i remember where id heard them.

I wish i could write something usefull, and required a typewriter to do so. There is something so sexy about these machines. Something so nostalgic and oldschool. Even though I am too young to have used one for a function, i can still see the romance in them. My sister had to used one for school, i used it a feew times for school, but by the time i needed to write large ammounts of text, we had a computer and a printer. Whilst these machines have their drawbacks, and plenty of them, some like this IBM, is just awesome!

Turns out that the hard drive enclosure i used require you to put the drive into Cable Select mode else it picks up the disk as a healthy unformated partition! Damn windows. Brings me to a reminder that i need a raided nas drive for all my stuff

Today im not having such a fantastic day, why i dont know, but im just not. Todays outlook on life is horrible, bleak, one sided ad pesimistic. Well, everytime i have a coffe in the morning, i need to go to the bathroom.And in the bathroom i write in my blog. This morning i point your attention to this sign in the bathroom of an office building im currently in. Its taken from the Washingtson Health services website, which is irelivent for 1 main reason. If you direct your eyes to the last 3 panes of this instruction booklet for the dumb, you will notice it says...rinse your hands, dry them and only then use a dry paper towel to turn off the water. It takes me at least 5 seconds to properly dry my hands....Lets multiply that a little. In 5 seconds i can fill up 1 glass of water. Lets say that the bathroom is used about 100 times a day on 20 floors...Thats 2000 glaases of water a day watsed because of some dumb fuck in the US of A! We are in a drout people! Use the Blow dryer

This morning, we got buzzed at our place. There was an electrician from the power company changing over all the power meters to those new smart meters. He said that we would be withotu power for 5 minutes! I was thinking to myself:

1. Iether this guys is SUPER fast and can replace our meter in 5 minutes or..

2. Hes goign to quickly hack the old meter off and connect us directly to the grid, whilst he gets the new ones ready to go and plugs them in in series....

Option 2 would be great, it gives us fere power for the time it takes him to put the new meter online. Ofcoarse he could have done the dodgy and put teh meter on in Series with teh old one and then cut the old one off.

Moving papers around their desk, numbers around their sheets, windows around their screens, letters to and fro. I notice a guy in the elevator today. He got out at the secon floor, was well dressed in a clean suit, but his posture and appearence indicated to me his complete lack of 'giving a fuck' about today. Reminded me of the countless numbers that plod the corporate world in the movie Brazil.

For me, Tuesdays are an inbetween the back to work drudgery of Monday and the sweet middle hump of the week wednesday. Today also marks the day of our notice to vacate our current flat. I gave 1 months notice last nite so within the next 30 days we will be in Fooby doobe doos flat!

I often bitch about corporate life, corporate offices, corporate culture etc... Today i would like to point out just a few good things. Firstly, last nite was the most disgusting sleep of my life. Its never been so hot in our place at night. NEVER. So to come into an office this morning that has their AC cranked up to a breezy 19c, Thats a WIN! Secondly, after a big feas which yours trully cooked up last night, I was so full, hot and tired that i couldnt even go to the bathroom. In coms the corporate coffe machine. Goood for coffes, cheering me up in the mornings and for most of any posts i enter before 10am. Thirdly, unerground parking. Theres something fancy about it. I love riding my bike into a huge underground parking lot, you can really hear the engine reverberate against the walls.

Thats what this week is all about. I have 4 days of work, an x-mas lunch on Wednesday with one of our bigger clients, an x-mas lunch at the belenki household...and did i mention i have to work this week! Its lame as! Im taking next week off though, so NYE should be good.

This portable AC was put in my office,its Loud as truck, the window needs to be constantly open for it to work,the blinds are bent and so let in allot of hot sunlight and it takes up allot of room. Was asked to pull the HDDs out of 2 old laptops for disposal and destruction today. These things were like thos white bricks of yesteryear. The disks were a whopping 810mb, which would have been state of the art back then in 1996. I feel bad destroying them, they are 13 years old and still work. After almost 6 years of almost 24/7 operation my humble little desktop has finaly given up its ghost. I paid $1000AU for the machine, which is about 45c a day over 6 years! Good value for money i say! Thankfully, im anal about backup, so the ghost didnt escape so fast. I restored the image onto a new desktop and bang all good.... Well mostly, i got my lightroom catalog back and some other software which i needed for remote access, but the most anoyin thing is that the old machine had a F drive instead of a C drive. That was totaly my fault, installed windows with 2 hard drives...anyway, after the image migration, it corrected that back to C but then i had to repair xpp, install the service packs....now i found out that its quier to just change every registry key from anything fereing to f to c. So thats what im doing now. I hate computers!

Well that was an epic day! What a line up! Zombie Nation, Marco Carolla and Umek one after the other! Zombie nation are not a favourite of mine but they were good. Marco Carolla was Awesome! He slowly built up his set and towards the end when i thought Umek was plaing,Marco Carolla was still on! Epic! Umek was only good but i had never heard Retoxol live and it blew me away! Im always intriguied by how the Devil is depicted throught time. Especialy in movies and texts, but not so much the bible (the old testemaent not the spamed new one). The idea of the devil is not really portraid as the opposite of G-d or as a god type individual. The devil is often just an angel of darkness. WHat i find interesting is that the devil is often decsribe as a cold, gambling, precise charector...I saw the new movie last nite by Tim Burton, The Imaginarium of Dr Parnasus. In it, The devil is described and played as a gambling man, inteligent, mathematical, precise, cold etc... BUT one thing they do show is that the devil is FAIR. Not fair in the human sense but fair as in scientific. Logical would be a better word. My thoughs are that the Devil may just be another force in the universe, one that is niether destructive or creative but more influential. A force that explains chaos maybe. It seems that in some religious texts, science is sometimes described as evil and heretic! Maybe the devil is the scientific mind? If anyone with strong religious beliefs reads this, please dont get upset, just my opinions.

Man, my office is HOT..want to know how hot? Ill tell you how hot....But i have to wait until my watch cools off from my arms temperature...lets talk about something else now. The Melbourne to Byron bay trip is on!! And i mean ON! Well, in reality it all depends on Mr. P for now. He has to pass his L's test which he is currently doing, in 32c heat...that sucks ass! If he passes, then we are a step closer. If he fails, I'm on my own for the trip, which will be ok, but boring as hell! The next step is to get his Bike serviced, and because its a bloody bemah, there are like 3 places in Victoria that will look at it. Coupled with the fact that its summer, it was pretty hard to find a spot to book a service. Hopefully its all good for this Friday. Im sure the bike will pass with flying colors, but you never know. This having to shave every day is getting annoying! Think of how much of the wollowing resources would be saved if men all around the world grew beards and only used beard trimmers to neat their beards! So much water, disposable and non disposable blades, shaving cream, moisturiser, aftershave lotion etc... Think about it. If i use about 1 litre of water per day to shave, the entire population of 20million Aussies would save 20Mega liters each day by not shaving! People! We need to think long and hard about this.Is having a clean shaven face worth 20megaliters of water each day?????

I had to get up at 7.20am today! Thats so bloody early!!! The weather did not help iether, it has been cold and wet and soggy. Last nite we held our charity auction at the Vinyard in ST Kilda. Spent most of today buying food with Moon Moon. Got enough to feed a small tribe for a week. Also picked up a Navman F10, tiny little gps unit that was on sale for $160, took it home and bricked the fucking thing within the 1st 5 minutes of operation. Took it back and got an upgrade to a newer model. S35 i think. Rowan helped me mod up the car mount to my bike. We used an old bycycle pump mount, that mounts to a solit round bar. The car mount itself, hacked up and fixed plus some spare mechano i had lying around. Rowans technical expertise really helped, my original design of the DYI Bike mount turned out to be a really well made bike mount for the unit. Now its sitting on my Triumph and i can pull it off any time. Awesome.

Im pretty much fully recovered today, had a very quiet day or work and chill yesturday, to cool off my min. Today i feel a lot more focused, which is the way i like it. One of the admin staff at one of my clients asked me today if i had a big weekend, i said that i just finished recovering on monday and they started talking about how 'IT Guys' always party.....what the fuck do i say to that? Not only did she instantly pigionhole me into the 'Boring Nerd' category, but then she generalized about my Partying Ability! I just smiled and waved....smiled and waved....fucking morons. BTW i know my pictures up here are getting a tad bit boring, but theres only so much stuff i can photograph in a toilet untill it starts getting alittle too close for comfort

8 of us went to the Park Life after party on Saturday night. I was glad that i had not bought tickets for Park Life, the line up was crap and $130 was steep to see 1 or 2 acts i really liked. One of those acts was thankfully playing at the after party and thats why we all decided to go. Tiga was the man we all paid $40 to see, unfortunately, Tiga was shit. I'm being, soft there also. He started 30 minutes late, the 1st hour of his set was so boring that most of the dance floor was empty and slowly getting emptier, his whole set was less then 2 hours ( for an international act, thats disgraceful) and to top it all off, he didn't play even 1 of his own tracks!!!! But There is a silver lining to any grey boring, Canadian cloud... Claude VonStroke, some guy i had not heard of before, chubby, bearded and very shy. AMAZING DJ! Played an awesome almost 3 hour set. Here is his MySpace page. Thanks to him we all had a good time and justified the $320 all 8 of us forked over to be there!

Oh my how the internet makes your mind wonder. I have a lot of spare time now whilst this bloody RAID does its thing. 7megabytes per second my ass! Anyway, i was watching this TED talk by a photographer, Taryn Simon. Here is the link to the video. What really startled me was one of her photos. It was of a Mother and Wife of a Scientist who founded the Cryonics Institute. I then did a segway and found that my search for Cryonics Institute gives me their branch in Australia. I eventually found the US site as read the QA pages for a while. Wow, holy fucking shit. It costs $28,000 USD to get your dead body to be frozen for 'eternity' or until they find a way to re animate you and heal your illness whatever it may be. Funnily enough you can not be frozen until you are proclaimed legally dead. They make this statement allot on their site. I felt really uncomfortable reading this stuff, I didn't find it as bullshit or as a scam, i don't dispute what they say at all. Read it here. I just found it rather strange. I don't know if you would really come back to life. I cant work out how people go through with this thing its just creepy....

There is a classic simpsons episode where the family visits a world fair. Im not sure if its a new world fair,but i have a feeling it was old like from the 60s because of all the Pan-am references. There is a scene where they are on a tour of the future and they drive into a mock scene of giant mech robots, with pan-am planes added on for good looks, whiping humans to do hard labour. ANd in the background you hear the Turtles Singing....I had another wacky dream last nite, it was very convincing thoug. I was on my way to the aiport with Moon Moon, we were going somewhere, it tooks us forever to get to the dam plane because of the shitty weather. When inside the airport, i start noticing that the area is turning into a house then an airport, it was morphing into a smaller place. And outside a huge storm rages. I finaly get to the windows of the airport/house and i see the runway, but im looking at a bay. I can see soft gentlee waves and mild rain. Suddenly the waves start getting very large and iregular,not like from the wind but as if something large was falling into the water.....From there it just seemed that i was at home and ground level was flooded. Chaos all around. ALl i could think of was 'why didnt i buy a cb radio'

What can i say about today. I did not sleep to well last night, no idea why. I woke up pretty late and got to my 1st client at 9:30. No one really complains but hey, i don't feel right sometimes. Yesturday haled the arrival of Yo, Frenchie and Mr. P. I could make a movie or write a book with these names if i had any creative writing tallents. My 2 reels of feel came from NY. Mr.P gracefully carried them for me. I put the HP5 in the fridge untill my T-max runs out(whichim sure it has). I reloaded my last empty canister last nite and had 0 left on the counter,so im not sure how much will actualy be left over. I did however load my new reel of Delta 400 in my new Cherry Hi-Loader. I dont know what is with the fancy name, i assume its chinese, but after an initial strugle with a test bit of film, i worked out how to load the whole reel in under 2 minutes. The LPL Bulk film loader on the other hand takes me about 5-10 minutes to load because its full of gears and sprockets that one has to spool the film around in complete darkness. Anyway, welcome back people!

Its a gorgeos day outside, warm and sunny. I am however sitting inside an office setting up a new server. Its going to take quiet a while to do, probably 3 days or so. Its a relatively cool thing to do on one hand. One the other its rather laborious. Migrating mailboxes, user data, permisions etc... I have been watching Snuff Box for the last few hours, thanks to J man for getting me hooke on this. Funny shit

I call it the Segregator. Its a network thingy,that segregates exchange servers from one another but still lets em sit together.

Its sunny allright, not so much warm but very sunny. On my bike again today and thats always pleasant. Todays entry consists of 4 types of cheeses, Tasty, Swiss, Danish Fetta and cream cheese. Tomatoes, bread and crackers made it in there as well. This morning, i had a nice hot bowl of porridge, self made with a huge scoop of yogurt. Yes i have nothing interesting to write yet...what are you going to do about it?

I Have a folder on my computer, where i put files. Unlike most people, i don't like deleting files. Especially text files. I find Text files the most useful. Thinking about changing this sites name to something like 'The Morning Bog'. If i had something interesting to write, that is. This would be an interesting job if its something that takes of. But you really have to be someone to have a blog that feeds you. A smooth segway in to something that happened near me today. Was walking to a clients office from my car, and was passing a school. I see this little boy, probably 7 years old and his mom, who is olding the gate of the school open for the kid to coe through. Suddenly the kid starts balling and screaming 'BUT I DONT WANT TO GOTO SCHOOL!!' to whic i replied to him as i walked by 'I know how you feel!'. Did his mom give me a greasy or what! haha. In my hands i hold the very 1st double 8mm film roll that I have ever shot. The camera used to shoot this was an oldie but obviously a goodie. Picked up by Mr. A in Germany last month, this little baby works just fine. Made in USSR still means quality! Aside from the camera, the film is properly developed, and well exposed at most parts. Ill have to rig up that broken projector and see if i can get this thing to give me some moving pictures

A quick google maps search for vegetarian revelas a veg only chineese place that does what i think is imitation meat, right across the street from the hotel. What can I say, its big, its soggy and moist. Im describing a piece of cake haha. Na, it seems like a pretty full on place. Melbourne is kind of small in comparison, im on level 6 on George street, and the streets are very tight, full of bussess and cs. Most of the building have greenery growing out of their windows, which i really like. It kinda reminds me of Mumbai,but hey a big city is a big city. Stay tuned for more of my adventures in Sydney.

You know i have to blog up here. We are flying at a speed of 500kph,at an altitude of....um i missed that bit. But i didnt miss the chance to use an airplane toilet. No chance! Man this place never sleeps, and i mean never. The security here is way too much for a domesti terminal. I was checked for explosives twice before i got anywhere near the plane. Thats all good but i was never checked for drugs,knives etc... I got a bad vibe from a security guard who was russing me allong. Just as my stuff come out of the xray machine hes like 'camon move it,move it' i greased him off and told him to slow down. Last night i installed the latest PHP build and tested out the IAMP system within. Works fine. Now will be the hard work of actually getting it to pick up mail from the mailbox, parsing the message, sucking out the image attachment and inserting it as a blog entry.

Im excited!! Also, i will be off to Sydney this Friday morning. This will be my very 1st proper stay and visit to Sydney! Planning on taking aLLLLLLot of pictures! In case your wondering about my appearance this morning, its just a bit too bright for me today.

I got home from a shwim at the sea baths and decided to try the whole Email to Blog. A while back i mused about configuring the blog so that i could send an email to an address, such as blah@blah.com and have the blog system convert the email into a blog entry. Kind of like an RSS feed but backwards. So half way though writing the code i figure, give it a go. Seems that the version of php im running doesn't have IMAP configured, therefore making my whole en devour a bit useless. After a few hours of sorting through manuals, forums and the php web site i decided to just blow away the current php directory and install a new later version instance. Lets see how that works out!

I have been sitting in this loby for 20 minutes. There is no one in the office. How very weird! I called one of people that work here, she sais she was at home on a day off, but thought it was strange that there was no one here. Conspiracy theory: The workers all went out to lunch and left 1 person in the office. This poor dude, went to the bathroom to have a nice quiet log entry, when suddenly his huge dump opens a worm hole into another dimension, forever trapping him on a toilet seat. As the others return, someone lets off some gas in the lift and it ignites by a spark, from the lifts doors opening. The elevator explodes pushing all occupants out the roof of the building. Gladly they survive, but one of them pooed in his panths so hard, he too opened a worm hole into another dimention, therefore sucking them all in. Meanwhile, im still waiting, drinking my tea, eating my cookie.

OOh what a rough Monday morning. I could barely get out of bed. When I finally got out of bed, the sky was gray. Whilst showering, I noticed that more snot came out of my left nostril in 1 minute then if I had the flu for a week. Then, i was hungry. But i couldn't eat because i was feeling so Monday-e. I had to make a log in the rest place before having my cup of tea and piece of hala. Before finally heading of to see a client for work. Oh man, work. I need to sleep for a bit more to get my head around stuff for this week. We are heading over to Sydney for a wedding this Friday. Might go earlier to see a few clients as well. Fun Fun!

Last night i copped a bit of criticism for this blog. It was called, dirty, toilet humour etc... For todays entry, i thought about writting something with a little bit of substance. But then i remembered that no one really reads this, and that i really just do this to help pass time when im doing my bussiness. And another thing! I dont like the number 3 beeing refered to as 'doing a shit'. The word 'shit', in my opinion, has very negative meanings. When i do my bussiness, i dont want it to be described as a negative but as a positive. Some nuetral, be it childish, words i like are:

Doing a poo, Passing the bussiness, releiving oneself of waste material, using the bathroom, Number 3, etc...

No negatives. I see it as a very helthy part of human life. a cleansing of the body that in the end cleanses the mind.

Check this out. I was shopping for food at Kato on Sunday, i spotted this. Its 100% pure MSG. A whole bag full of crystals. Only $2.80. Imagine eating that whole bag,you would go nuts! Before leaving hope i went to the bathroom, and had a smooth movement that left me feeling fresh as can be for a rainy mMelbourne morning. My Policy on Gifts vs My Policy on Free Stuff

I have a very simple policy on Free Stuff. If its not bolted down, its free. And free is free. If its is free i will almost always take it and accept it. Par the normal free things that no one wants, I wont list them.

My policy on gifts is much grayer. I am of the opinion that one must give more than one must take. I understand that even in a perfect world that would create a lot of gifts that no one excepts and partially contradicts my theories.

Why this post...well, Moon Moon just picked up a parcel from the post office bearing the mark of Mr. A. Now i know its not what i asked him for, because the cops would be all over Moon Moon if it was. It says Video Camera, MR. A? What are you doing man? Its not my beef day! Anyway, I'm sure its gona be awesome whatever it is. If i was getting shit pissed all over Europe you can bet your ass i would send you shit back to OZ Mr. A. I used to think about this allot a few years back. It was usefull to have a parachute plan in case something i did backfired in a bad way. On another note, is there such as thing as backfire in a good way?

Having that ticket to Mexico in case you screwed up or having that wad of cash in case you got fired, or having that backup in case your computer got fryed. All these things were part of my daily routine. Back when i was dodgier then now and dodgier than thou. Haha kinda like holier than thou,but in a dodgy way. Its interesting to go through the days and see so many exit signs, but not have and relevant exit strategy on hand. On the other hand, this could all be a ploy in my exit strategy....i am in the toilet,where i do my best plotting.

Saw District 9 last nite. I really liked it. There was not a single famouse actor in the whole film, i was on the dge of my seat almost every few minutes and the plot was great. I had pretty high exspectations for the film from the previews. It was obvious that it was a low budget, non holiwood afair, and these kinds of films are usualy good. I was not disapointed. New Dlink 2 bay Sata NAS drives...My Review

My boss gave one of these to me and asked me to evaluate it. We get allot of near gear on Eval to test out at clients. This is a nice looking Network Attatched Storage box. After unpacking and having used the smaller single bay unit,i thought it would be pretty uneventfull. My usualy response to eval products is iether a Yes we use it or a no its shit send it back. Ffrom my experience with this im going to give you 2 reviews. One of a person who knows a bit about computer hardware,such as myself. and one from the point of view from your every day avarage computer user...

My Review: It took me about 20 minutes to get this thing operational. It lost its IP address setting 3 times,it wouldnt except any new settings from the interface,the web interface just wasnt there every 2nd time you tried to open it etc... AFter fucking around with it and getting frustrated,i updated the firmware to this YEARS version (cant believe they would send this thing out with shitty firmware) and found things to work properly. I was finaly able to do stuff,like use the bloody thing. Its pretty basic,nothing to it but a NAS box,but thats a good thing. I Think they go for about $300 with no drives. I wouldnt recomend it, seems a bit flaky to me

How often have you woken up with the after thoughts of a strange dream. On another note i think that any dream feels strange, the two words go together. Last night,i dreamt a dream that was alltogether loony. I was on a high cliff looking over qa small country town. I could recognize a few people here and there,i was even able to speak to them somehow through the distance. I remember having said to a couple, hey i can hear you how cool. So anyway, a strange and uncorfortable feeling floated around me. A dark, almost dirty man, in dark clothes approached me. He seemed very familiar with me and vice versa. He began to discuss the faults of manking in their present state. He began to tell me that I was not a man but a perfect biological machine. He said 'You are better than man,cleaner and have infinite compassion within you'. At this stage he ban to assemble a smal white plqastic device. This paper i got on ebay was first launched in the late 1930. I doubt the paper is that old, id say maybe 60s looking at the package...

Ran my 1st prints on it tonight and WOW! So many years later, a sealed pack, exposes perfectly!. bright high contrast pictures, smooth glossy finish on the paper. Its not too papery either, as in it doesn't feel like news paper after its gone through 4 baths. My 1st test was a tiny test strip of moon moon. Came out perfectly. And my actual 1st full size print was of Mr W. at Hanging Rock. They don't make stuff like that anymore

There is a price tag on the bottom left that says 65c from Michaels Photography and Chemist store. Haha didnt know that michaels used to be a pharmacy as well. Pretty funny. Its actually pretty small when you look at it. But its so encompassing. I have trouble finding time to give each task a correct balance. Its like having 3 friends and each one of them being jealous of one another in my head. I think the problem really is or restlessness and neuroses.

When i sit to make music, i think of how crappy I am at it and that i should be focusing on my photography. When i shoot, develop or print pictures i think of how I should be making music or drawing. Its hell sometimes. A personal hell.

I had a few emails this morning from one of my clients. Frantic emails, with lots of OMG and TWIO(the world is over)...Here is a little snippet of what went down..

'The files are missing,our whole year of accounting data is gone,we are screwed,they suddenly dissappeared last night,ill go put the back up take and you restore them'....

So I loged onto the server,looked around and did some snooping. The company data files are sitting there,undamaged,unmoved,untouctouched. So i login as the user,look in the recycling bin and see the shortcuts to the program they use to open the data.....so i call them back..

me-'so are you missing the shortcuts to the program or the actual data'

them-'the data,we are screwed....no wait whats a shortcut??'

So i restore the shortcuts, call them back and am cheered on..Sometimes i wonder if i should have goten out of bed at all

Mr. A has brought to my attention a little thought. If I am always saying 'This will also change' in terms of a statement that generalizes the world around us, will i even change and stop saying it? I think that I obviously will. Change is inevitable so I, allong with everyone else, will also change. Its easier to handle for some of us and dredgingly hard for others. Having spoken to a few people about that saying, i get quite steady feedback. People who have gone to do a Vipassana course have always say that people who have not done it, percieve the aboce saying as derogatory. As if one is speaking down to you. I have had personal experience beeing told by close friends to shut the fuck up and stop beeing all self rightious about it. But change is not something you force upon yourself or others,its not something you let happen or something you can controll. Its just something tht Happens. Its occurance is garanteed. So my advice is, dont fear it, accept it and eperience it

The weather outside is realy nice today. Sunny,smells nice,bit chilly but ok. But inside is a whole other shitstorm. Oh my g-d i installed Office 2003 instead of 2007...aaaaaahhhh. Lets all overreact and throw a kiddy tantram about fucking up and the like. I sometimes wonder about the sanity and balance of some of these guys. Its stuff like that, it really drives you up the wall, and you really have to try hard to say to yourself 'this will also change'. Because in the real wolrd, yes this will also change. I spoke to one of them today after i got a really waking sms fronm work last nite. And all was fine, the storm was settled,there wasnt even a wind...ooops theres some wind. So whats my lesson today..The same as every other day. These specs of dust that land on the surface of your existance are nothing but dust that will eventualy get blown away by a cool breeze. Sure some may settle on the surface for a while, but know and know well, that will also change. Everything changes all the time, everywhere.

Yes,its Sunday again. Man the weekend always seems to fly when your having fun. Im doing my laundry today, as can be seen in the picture. This laundramat isnt usualy so bussy,every machine is in use, and im using 2 dryers at once!! A coupld of new things a couple of old things...Got some cool little action figures at an op-shop yesturday with J. One of them is a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Tigrzord robot, complete with laser sounds, red lights and decals. The other was a smaller Transformers Beast wars White Bear, cant remember the name of the figure, ill have to check 4chan again. I have been working with Reason 4 lately, as mentioned in a previous post when i got that cool MIDI Knobinator! Im going to call it the Knobinator from now on...I also did a trade with J for his 47key Midi Keayboard. SO now i have a pretty nicely decked out desk that is far to small to acomodate my horizontal organizational structure AND Moon Moons surgey clean laptop workbench environment. So today i say, spin spin spin so i can go home and do interesting things. Bodzin rocks! listening to Puck!

So I have been organizing this webinar (web based video/voice call/meeting/conference) all week. Technicaly speaking its easier then sending an email but corporate australia is scare of technology so one has to heard these people into the right direction. Im currently sitting in on this conference call. There are 5 people in this room and 6 other offices with about 5 people per office. I have to say that i do like my job sometimes, i am pretty much just getting pai to sit there and look pretty. At the same time,i could be doing something more usefull and utilizing my efforts to do actual problem solving. Man i got hit in the lip by a mean ass monitor stand today. Was removing a hue jazz 24 inch screen of one of them fancy corporate dual screen stands. The last screw saw the whole thing happen. Even if it meand they are doing it wrong! I had a client ask me last week to set up a way for their small office (10 people) to have a shared calendar for a boardroom. So i did, I set up a nifty public folder which everyone can access to add appointments, check if the boardroom is in use before booking it etc... The response i got whas this...'BUT at the last company i worked at,i just sent a meeting invitation to the boardroom and everything miraculously worked'. Man corporates are really anoying sometimes. Ask me for advice only to buy the $2 one. Cant stand that kind of mentality. Its a breeding ground for ignorance, buck passing and the general followwing system these corporate type WORSHIP.

Part of my job often involves doing this that are not really IT in nature, but utilize IT. Its kind of like when you ar ethe only guy in the house who knows how to program the VCR then everyone is goign to ask you for help on how to watch the TV. One of the biggest issues i have been finding is with meetings. One of our larger clients is hosting a big training session where 7 state offices will join remotely. Its taken mee over 2 weeks now to get everyone organized and talking properly. From a technological perspective, you dont need much. Just a computer that has internet acces and a sound card! Most people are so afraid of their computers these days, they will palm the work off to the IT not because its their job but becaus ethey are lazy and dont want to use their brains a little bit to expand their minds. A good example of this is one of the Directors of this client. Aftre using a popular service called Goto Meeting, i wont post a likn unless they give me a free acount, he realized its potential and without any IT advice asked me if he could use this to teach HIS clients remotely how to use particular software, or how to do something on a securities web site etc... This guy used his brain a little and got a llot out of it. I think thats what seperates the sheeple from the people. That and all of you who use Iphones...Baaaaaa

No matter what, ridding down the beach road in the morning, before the sun has had a chance to warm up the day, is really cold. My hands started to feel so cold that my fingers began to solidify. Each finder tip was turning into a small cold rock. I had to stop once and use the heat from the bikes engine to warm up. Thank the engeneers for air cooling on this baby. Today would mark the 1st day that i have ridden my bike in 2009 in such a cold temperature. It was and still is a gorgeous day outside. Its cold but sunny. Have a listen to this, its 16 seconds and only 600k. This is my 1st attempt at using Ableton Live V8. My Desktop doest really hack it so well, I had 3 instruments running and a 4th made it stutter into BSOD'ness. Sooo i reckon ill try running on this on my tiny little net book, its WAAAY more powerfully then my desktop....need new computer now...Its been calling me for years, but I cant afford my dream machine just yet. I'm thinking a dual quad core with 8gb ram, 16gb SSD for the system and a descent video card. I'm a RAM and CPU man...Gota thank Ken for introducing me to this application. its pretty cool. Takes me back to rebirth. I tried using Resin a few times but it was too heavy and too ugly. It also had a very specific sound that was hard to get out of, kind of like rebirth. Before ableton, i use to set up individual analogue synts, set up a melody and record it through whatever effects i needed. They all went to a multi track sequencer, i used Acid Pro at the time. I should almost always use the rebirth 909 drum machine, back in the day! What a sound that had! But i was a sample man, when i was making music, synths were fore the wealthy, and i didn't have much money. ts-404, rebirth, rubber duck, drummer boy, hammer head, acid pro, these were my tools. And who could forget Cool Edit.

Last week kind of swished by. I wish it had actualy made that noise though. The weekend went by just as fast, well a lot faster considering it was only 2 days. I learned a few things over the weekend,some that shocked me,some that surprise me and some that bored me. One thing i learned was that the mushroom and veg dumplings i have been getting from the chappel street fruit grocer have HEAPS of MSG. Which is why they are so tasty, after all. But after polishing of a pack with aronson, i was not feeling the best. Shalow breathing, heart rate skyrocketed, needed to drink and quench the unquenchable thirst in my mouth. The key to these delicious dumplings is not to eat half a bag of them in 1 sitting! I learned that Yossi has been married,iether this week or over the weekend. I saw a photo from his something-book that nik showed me. Couldnt see much though. Well...good on you yo and lay! Wishing you a lifetime of hapiness.

I went on my 1st hot air balloon ride on Sunday. It was cold, we had to get up at 4am and drive for an hour and a half, and whilst it was pretty cool, all up I would NOT recommend it. Its one of those things you gota do once, especially for the price, it just isn't justified:

The company we went with was called Global Ballooning. DON'T USE THEM. The entire experience was full of cautions, waring, terms and conditions. At no time did i actually feel welcomed or like a passenger on a ride. I felt like they were doing US a favor by flying the thing for us
After we paid for the tickets, they sent us some documents, 99% of which were how they would get away with ripping us off. The can cancel the flights at any time for any reason and not tell us the reason. If they cancel the flight you loose your money(unless you paid $80 more for your tickets), if the wether is bad you loose your money, if you dont show up you loose your money, you cant even move the flight booking!!!
Before arriving, we had to check if the flight was still going ahead, fair enough if the whether is bad they cancel on us. So we call on Saturday night and the message said, WE DON'T KNOW IF ITS GOING AHEAD PLEASE CALL US AT 5:15 AM. IF IT IS GOING AHEAD YOU MUST BE AT THE LAUNCH SITE AT 6:15am! OK, so the launch site is like an hour an a half away form us, it meant we had to start driving at 4:30 and make the call half way there
So we got there, flight was not canceled, we got all our stuff together they drove us to the launch site and then they put everyone to work. Now for $300 per person I DO NOT WANT TO DO ANY WORK. They were even joking about how if we didn't help out we wouldn't get our breakfast. I will never use this company again for this specific reason
The flight was good, it was very calm, i felt comfortably squashed into the basket with way to many people. The landing was soft, the pilot was a pro, that was obvious.
Then we get our breakfast...oh man. Not only did ours arrive about 20 minutes after everyones else's (probably because we wanted no meat in ours) but it was CRAP! 2 soggy pieces of bread, with soggy luke warm eggs, a huge mushroom half a tomatoe. Camon people, I GOT UP AT 4am I'm efing hungry for real food!

All up, im REALLY glad Mon like the ride however!

See that sign on this candy machine? It says Please dont shake me. It says that for goog reason. Every time you put money into it, Youre candy gets stuck because the machibe doesnt work very well. This doesnt happen all the time but i would say that you dont get your candy more often then you do. I have learned a new trick however...Untill the machine uprising,i am pretty sure mr candy machine cant feel anything as is not booby traped with a high pitched alarm everytime you shake him. Its a blog, and It's my blog, and I will post whatever I want on it. I got a new pair of shoes on the weekend.A pair of Dr. M's Boots. They are way to stiff at the moment, but i feel a real purpose when i walk in them. A few things i would like to rant on about today:

Internet Explorer 7 on Windows 2008 will not allow Active-X until you rape it or install another browser! This drove me up the wall today, thank g-d for chrome. Google Chrome not the kind you do from a spray can.
ASUS rack servers do not have the on board BIOS update ROM...This is annoying, because if they make a server, that will run a server operating system, why not include a program for such an operating system to do an online or offline bios update, which i really need to do!

Have a good look at the picture on the left. Im not going to comment directly on this pic but i will use it to show you something more sinister. Channels 9 and A Current Affairs(or whatever its called). G-d aweful reporting and fake stories are just the tip of the iceburg with these people. They have a prime time slot on TV and what do they show?? A story about a woman,who after a 'near death experience' has the ability to hear ghosts through her 'right ear only'. Now im not going to doubt her ability/disability here,but what really pissed me off was the examples they were using. Late at night the camera crew is filming the lady at a cemetry. She walking around and randomly taking photos with her little poin and shoot compact digital camera. She then shows the picture to a scared reported who sees things in the picture. Not only was this misleading,but outright BULLSHIT. She had the camera set on a very long exposure,id say about half a second. She also used a flash and her iso was set to 800 i would say. The way she was taking the photos would garantee ghosting,motion and weird things on the picture. Try it yourself. ACA..YOU GUYS ARE LAME and FULL of SHIT!

These be my brand spanking new, tailor made leather motorbike panTHs. I had these made by a company called MARS leather on Elizabeth street. The company makes motorbike gear for the Victoria police and these panTHs are the same ones the bike police wear! I had them put in a few more safety features though. The original kneepads are pretty soft, i doubt they would really do anything if i landed on my knees. I had some more sturdy ones put in. I noticed they put in some side bum pads also, but these are bit uncomfortable, ill have to move them around a bit. All up they are pretty nice. The leather is pretty soft and they fit perfectly. I have the day of work today because of my random wisdom tooth. One of the bastards has pretty much been growing at 90 degrees to the last tooth in my mouth and has pretty much crushed it. So i have get the damaged one fixed/removed...I was in heaps of pain this morning...hope the dentist can fix this.

They dont get it! They just dont get it. I have had a few emails today from a certain client. A large corporate office, smart people. I was asked to disable notifications from their mail AV scanner, because 99% of these were just telling them that spam has been detected. However, when they do happen to get that 1% of legitemate mail,the scream and shout and work up a fuss as to why they were not notified that it was blocked.....oh my. They keep me in the money,thats for sure.

The company i work for are tryling an Asus 1u rack mount server. Wow its so thin! And without the Hard disks its so light. Its so light that i had to open it and make sure we were not sent an empty shell. Proper server manufacturers such as IBM and HP should take heed and maybe make their servers slightly lighter. I dont need them bulletproof,just solid enogh to sit there. And if i need to move them,i dont want to have to ask for someones help. These asus models look cheap,dont get me wrong. It has a quad core xeon with what looks like 4gb of ram, 4 full size sata slots and i assume it has some sort of RAID array BIOS. If i needed a server and i had a rack,id get this one,but if someone asked for my advice,i would not recomend it. Mind you i havnt even turned it on. Idiots forgot to ship the HDD's.

I ran a few tests on the Weza and came up with a really optimistic figure:

At peak kicking it generates Approximately 14V @ 14Amps

Now if you have someone kicking it constantly for 1 hour we can charge 9 XO-OLPC's half way, But an hour of full ball kicking is going to wear anyone down. I would guestimate that a modest kick for an hour would happily charge 5-6 at a time half way. Here us a video of the tests I conducted:(thanks to Mr. A for the oscilloscope, and the kicking)

Part of the FreeCollective project I'm involved in is about generating power for all the equipment. One of the devices we are looking at using is the Freeplay Weeza:

This thing is great, it has a 12v 10amp output, that you can plug anything you like into. The device itself has a 12v lead acid battery inside that is charged with a dynamo generator. You simply step on it and it charges. You have to step on it for a while to get the charge going proper, but its still pretty good considering you get free electricity. Plug an inverter in and you have yourself a completely portable power socket. I could run a 60w bulb of the thing, but because the battery was not fully charged i had to keep pumping it. I'm going to try to create a charging rack for the laptops. The OLPC's we are using consume 12v at 1.2amps, that means i can pull around 6-8 laptops on this thing.

Im slowly working out how to use the camcorder properly and experimenting with different effects and procedures in Premier. This video is pretty cheesy and can be made by anyone who opens up premier for the 1st time, but it thought it should still be online.

Here, i dismantle a Kiev TTL Spot Metered Prism. These are made in Russia, i think they still make the, because i bought this one packaged and pretty much fresh from the factory. They are part of the Kiev range of Medium Format Cameras. I have heard a lot of very negative reviews on this brand, but i always left it alone because everyone seems to love bagging Russian stuff... Especially Americans. My experience with the Zenit range of cameras has been nothing but fantastic. This hunk of crap, however was useless from the start. I bought it to use it as a metered prism for a Hasselblad body. However the prism was so badly made that its focal point is about 5mm off and meant that if i looked through the prism into the camera everything was blurry. Selling it on ebay would be useless, so i thought lets take it appart:

It took me 30 minutes to take it apart. The quality of this thing can only be said to be shite. If something inside this was faulty and you wanted to replace or adjust it, good luck. By the time you got into it, there is NO chance it could be reassembled. The screws were ripped apart when taken out, I would say that about 60% were totally un-usable again. Some couldn't even be removed and needed to be snapped off. The prism itself was also of not the best quality. It was not glass, but some sort of plastic (which i think most modern ones are anyway) but it was badly sealed and you could see light leaks from the top. Anwyay hope you enjoyed the video. It was sped up form 30minutes to 5 minutes and the track is by Tressor, don't know the name, i pulled it from a record years ago.

The BSOD, yes THE is a good prefix for it, is the Blue Screen of Death. Its a standard part of the Windows OS that kicks in anytime the machine wants a rest. I have no idea what stop error X0.0000xab means damit. Why couldnt they put in some simple troubleshooting tips,like Hi,im not feeling good today,im not going to work untill you work out which one of the 3 trillion things is wrong with me. That would be better then IRQ_NOT_LESS_THEN_OR_EQUAL_TO. What the hell does that mean?? Im not a layman when it comes to computers but camon Microsoft. I gota sit here and wait for 10 minutes to work out why this server is constantly BSODing...Its not even a software issue i bet. Ill have to call IBM and get one of their goons to poke around inside and tell me that he has no idea whats wrong with it so he will replace every component inside. Furthermore, he will tell me how he does not know how what he just did(replace the hardware) fixed the problem.Im sick of this shit,i really am.

OK. This is going to be a test thing for me. I bought a little MiniDV Camera on the weekend from Cash converters, mainly because I have always wanted a video camera but could never be bothered to fork out so much cash for one. I got this baby for $200 AUD. Not too shabby. Made a few test shots and cut them together with some cool music. You know the same shit that everyone on you tube does when then first get a camera. I would like to appologize in advance to Z and Mr. P and everyone else who can edit video properly...yes is this is piss poor, but its just a test. That is how flat out i have been today. Dont get me wrong though,i enjoy a challange. Sometimes i enjoy 2 or 3 at a time. But when it gets to be more than that at the same time,it gets difficult. Mr. A tells me my reel to reel tapes have arrived,will be an interesting evening tonight,getting all that stuff working. I think the 1st thing i will record onto that is Pink Floyds Wish you were here album. No i lye there. The first thing i want to do is to test the tapes frequency response. The reel to reel player is rated at 30hz to 30khz,thats curious...I cant hear above 25khz anyway,but it makes a prettybig difference. Will run some synth tests.

So Mon, tels me that she heard this really cool song on 106.7 PBS FM, last night. She tells me that she cant find it anywhere and if i could help her download it. When she said download she doesn't mean for free, she just wanted a copy! So i begin the search.

If your interested, the guy we were after was named Bill Laswell. The song she wanted was 'Cucumber Slumber' ( look that up on urban dictionary by the way). The album it was on was by a group Bill was in called Material and the album was called Hallucination Engine. Sounded good, so we began looking!

Im not going to let this good karma go without sharing it with others. The laundramat on Mitford Street has a dryer with a jammed $1 coin in it. Why is this blo worthy,you may ask? Well..Its stuck in such a way that if you turn the knob to accept the coin,you get a free 8 minutes of drying. Turn it a few times,and you dont have to pay for drying at all. So yeah. If you walk into the laundromat,its the 2nd last dryer on the left. On the left of the dryer is the detergent machine,on the right of the dryer is the last dryer near the wall. Ater yesturdays journey,I am left feeling very tired and soar. Strangely enough there was not very much physical exertion,just a lott of sitting and driving at 100kph. Lessons learned: Take a walkman, 2 hours of hyway from Geellong to Melbourne are reaaly boring when you have to concentrate on not falling off the bike continuasly. Take some snacks with you,i got hungry heaps. Take some drinks and some fruit. Dont know how the fruit wagon missed me that time. Take a scarf...it was pretty cold down the point nepean end. Next time, i would like to actualy get to the point of point nepean. We bailed on it because it was a 3.5k walk. Next time gadget,next time.

Haw yea! For anyone who is interested, have a gander at the path we took here. We did it all on our motor bikes. Took off from my place at around 1pm and got home around 7pm. Had heaps of time to chill out, have lunch, have a drink, stare at the water. Even saw some dolphins when we were on the Ferry. Ferry was pretty boring though. drove our bikes in, waited for 40 minutes, drove our bikes out! Anyway. We have to do another one like this. We Traveled 203Km!

Developing film the easy way

Wow, if i had know about this device a few years ago, i would have wasted so much less time. 1st off, the Germans are truly awesome in this respect. The simplicity of this device is amazing, compared to the effort of doing it the long way. So here is what you do:

You have a roll of B&W film you want to develop. Heres what you need:

Developer, fixer, and water(lots of it)
A light poof bag
A developing tank
A lightproof change bag, scissors
And SKILL, because you are going do it all in with your hands and not with your eyes.

With the Rondinax, however, all you need is the device itself, the chemicals (less of them also, this device uses 200ml to develop a 35mm roll, whilst a standard dev tank uses around 350ml), water (once again much less), the film, and not much skill at all!

You simply place the film in the device, attach the film leader to the spool feeder (piece of pie that is!), close the box and roll the film on until it stops. Then push the cutter to cut the film from the canister! Put in your chemicals, turn, turn, turn....Well you get the point! I got this on ebay for $59AUD. Its amazingly simple to use, and i wish i had it a few years ago when i was starting out. Shame they don't make these anymore, they are pretty rare. Only 1 left on ebay at present....

So here is a few seconds of relief for your gold fish like attention spans. Last night we went to Bala da Dhaba on Geln Eira Rd in Ripponlea. It moved recently across the road because of a fire. Not great food i have ot say. The Dahl was way to thick, the Paneer was tasteless and the Kulfi....oh my lord dont get me started on what they want you to believe is Kulfi. That filth they served me was like frozen whipped cream. i sent it right back. I think i will have to start my own Kulfi franchise! Who wants to invest!?

I got a pretty early call this morning because a server at one of my clients offices had died. I was hopping it was something simple but a lack of a little green light on the powersupply usualy means otherwise. So i got HP to send me a new one,that will take a day and my boss is trying to get one as well. In the mean time,i need to godo another office to see if that server has a PS i can salvage. I lso need to do a Number 2 and the bathroom in the 1st office is in use. So i drive for 15 minutes and RUN into the bathroom. I havn't even checked the salvage server...so not on my list befor i finish my morning routine.

I ordered the wrong kind of RAM for a clients computer this week. Last week, ASUS told me that this laptop takes DDR2. This week they tell me it takes DDR1. Anyway! I have scored myself a 2Gb RAM module for my dell Mini! Its now been proper hacked and upgraded!!! Runs smooth and warm. One thing I'm not into though is that new Intel Video hack that increases the Video Processor speed to 400Mhz from 133. I like my battery life thank you very much!

Have you ever stopped into a bathroom, kitchen, laundry etc.., Used a tap and looked at the knobs. Why is it that Hot is on the LEFT and Cold is on the RIGHT. Who makes these rules? What I find even more interesting are mixer taps. Some are not even labeled because of their design. Some are labeled in some weird post modern hot/cold icon. But why? Why like this?

I shaved. Went for a long ride to the Ferntree Gully Peter Stevens shop with Ken. There was a big sale on motorbike gear, some cool shit. Got a bike lock with a 110db alarm. Hehe pretty loud(trust me, i had to try it). We got out of the shop pretty quick, and seeing as its a few minutes from Mt Dandenong, we decided to push on and drive up. Got to Sasafrass, stopped off for a cupa and to pick up some Jam, as you do. So it was pretty cold on the mountain, you could feel the chill as soon as you started driving up the road. The beard did well in keeping my face warm, but it was time to go. Did a 80km round trip! Ken rides well for a learner. Good on ya brew!

But failed miserably. One of my clients got a brand new laptop,that blue screened out of the box. OUT OF THE BOX! Can you believe it. And no,this is not why PC's are crap. It is, however, why a certain computershop shouldnt put cheap RAM into high end notebooks and mix good with bad. Anyway, thats my 1st job for today. I took my bike today,it is a sunny day and how many sunny days like today do we have left. It is pretty cold outside!!

After my ordeal with installing this tiny little card, I now have Wireless N. I get around 130MBit in my kitchen! To everyone who wants to do this. take my advice...

Power off the pc ocmpletely
Have the original drivers from DELL ready on your pc for the ABG card
Update your pc with windows update to get the latest driver

I got home tonight and was about to leave to goto Yo's, when i found my brand new Wireless N adapter for my Dell Mini. Being the geek that i am, you know I'm going to get stuck into installing it then and there! Here is where my night goes bad:

I pull open my Mini, take out the old A/B/G adapter and insert the new one. Perfect, everything fits, the antennas connect, looks great. Close it up and start her up
Starts up in Windows and immediately recognizes and installs the Drivers. Im thinking...wow thats awesome, but to make it more awesome, ill install the drivers i downloaded from Broadcom...
WRONG BUDDY! Wrong, wrong wrong. As soon as i install these drivers, the card is disabled and windows reports that it cant start it...CODE 10! I think the whole Code 10 thing is for another rant... So i roll back the driver...No that doesn't work either because the new ones have overwritten them.
What i worked out was that Broadcom, being the compact people they are, putt drivers for their A,b,g and N cards in one package. So i un-installed it from windows, removed all traces of the drivers. I then used the driver package that came with the Dell Mini, these worked fantastic.
On the next task...Connecting to the network. Oh man. someone should be punished for this.
It wont connect to my SSID....I try different WEP keys, i check the mac address tables, i hard WIPE the base station, flash it again. reconfigure it. nothing. So i start again with it.
I Wipe it, and leave it with defaults. No WEP key, no security. BANG connects...here is where I start pulling my hair out. Not only would it not connect in any other Authentication mode, but it was flaky as fuck. SO i say, ok leave it lets go to this Bikram Yoga shit
I goto Yo's and find out that he wants the photos of the OLPC shot in a whitebox, which he didnt ask me to bring. I find out that im early for Yoga, i find out that he is no longer going! That puts me on edge. I really shouldn't have gotten edgy over this. But i did. I failed the most basic Vipassana test...
The whole journey to this Yoga was full of fuck ups, typed it into google maps wrong twice, pulled up to the the wrong place 3 times, couldn't find a park for a few minutes. Was getting very stressed now. Failed again.
Did the Yoga, was nothing special, hot room for 90minutes, stretching my body in ways i have not stretched it before.
Left the room after, and waited for Mr a and Mr p to come out. Mr p. is last as usual, doesn't know where the key is...anyway all sorted i reacted very badly to everything.
Got home, made dinner, ate dinner, got this N thing to work finally, after fiddling with every possible authentication method and hardware settings.

What have I learned from this you ask? I need to meditate more.

I will tell you why. Because they are dodgy,dodgy people. These people,such dodgy people. Oh how dodgy they are. The dodge so good that no one can out dodge them. Them dodgers. Dodgy. Seriously though, at 10am on a Tuesday im not really keen on cleaning up soe fool ass dodgy guys computer just because they browse to some dodgy site or plug in a dodgy usb key from their dirty,dodgy home pc. Its not the virus creators im pissed of at,these people are artists in their own wright. But the dodgy tossbag who is wasting my orning,when i could be having a nice cup of tea doing something actualy productive. Im gona get this guy back. Sure,you say,he didnt do it on purpose...dodgy

According to me, a salad is a dish made of a multitude of vegetables,fruits and or nuts un/garnished with dressings of some description. This is wikis description of a salad. Mon and myself,are at dinner at the Grand Highet,only to discover that their idea of a salad is 3 roasted tomatoes and pieces of cheese. Camon people,get with it. That is not a salad. Much better...I had my usual morning bussiness, and some breaky. Made some sour dough toast with manuka honey and slices of banans on top. Also a cup of earl grey, loose leaf ofcoarse. I do prefer tea bag ear grey, but i dont have any, and my strainer is dirty, so it was comando style loose leaf. Its very sunny and pleasent outside, although its bitey cold!!

Because I feel crap! 1 too many drinks last night. Tali and Matt's wedding was heaps of fun. Good food, a great band, hand picked by the couple, funny speeches, dancing, shmansing and good friends. They did pike out at like 11pm, which is pretty tame guys!!!! Well, i had a blast and so did Mon. Onto Mon:

Good morning all. It's Monday, I have slept well, Had breakfast, gone to the loo and had a self made espresso. I did think about taking my bike in to work today, but it was a tad bit too cold. Now its all sunny and nice. Ill drive the bike tomorrow if its like today.

I got bought an wireless N card for my DELL Mini 9. I don't know why they don't install these as standard. The card was $35 ($49 shipped), I cant see that the A,B,G card is going to cost ridiculously less. Anyway, i hope that it works ok. I have a fear that they crammed the WiFi, Blue tooth and Ethernet NIC's onto the one PCI-E card. If thats the case, then I will have WiFi-N but nothing else. This will suck.

If anyone wants some cheap Moleskins, this guy on ebay is pretty good. Has them shipped out PH. Thats Post Haste! Enjoy your Monday people!

Well, its pretty boring really. I'm watching a hugely over sized Microsoft Exchange database, under repair by eseutil.exe.... Fun huh! Pays the rent though!!! Ive watched some shitty video also, we were going to go see this movie a few days ago about DMT and all that shit. good thing that we couldn't get any tickets. You had to smell like a dirty hippy to get in and I'm glad. After 20 minutes of watching this crap i was glad i could close it. Saw a coll Nikon 16mm fish eye lens on ebay for $900, thought about getting it, then told myself, that i don't need it and closed the page. I'm just terrible with this stuff. Listening to Perfect Stranger now..Farking cool shit!
